Safeguard PPI has been developed to support the implementation of patient and public involvement initiatives within Trusts. Safeguard PPI enables the Trust to manage all projects that fall under the remit of PPI, to coordinate activities and focus resources. The information provided will highlight areas of the community that are fully engaged with the debate, and where further work is required to encourage participation. It also enables Trusts to analyse recurrent themes across many different projects, and to record feedback in order to make reports and recommendations to the Trust Board.

Projects
The projects defined within PPI can be complex, for example investigating whether a new service is required. This may involve meetings, questionnaires and many different information gathering techniques. Alternatively the project could be as simple as a single questionnaire. In either case, the feedback and themes that arise from either scenario are analysed in the same reports. Primary information such as the project purpose, dates, lead contact, person approving and resources required are collected. Themes

Activities
To gain enough input from the community at large for certain projects, the Trust may organise many activities over a period of time. These activities may by a combination of meetings, questionnaires, leaflet distribution and so on. These activities are coordinated through the central diary, indicating the dates and times, venues and resources required. Action Planning Safeguard PPI is fully integrated with the Safeguard PALS, Complaints, Incident and Request for Information Systems, with appropriate access rights for all users. All Safeguard software is upgraded in accordance
with legislation & user requirements in consultation with the Safeguard
user group. |
